After the last 3 waves of positive disruption (internet, smartphones, cloud business), here comes the new one: Internet of Things
This revolution is opening new possibilities, new opportunities and new ways to make Australia smarter & more effective. It is all about connecting the un-connected to obtain relevant data for stronger analytics to benefit government, cities, industries and people. To be able to connect everything & anything and make the IoT a real success, low cost, long range connectivity and low power consumption devices are imperative to pass pilot stages & provide obvious benefits to most cities & industries. This connectivity technology is called LPWAN (low power wide area network). In the following presentation three contenders to be reviewed: Sigfox, LoRa & NB-IoT. Thinking that there will be just 1 winner (such as VHS vs Betamax) does not make any sense. All have their pros & cons and a fit for purpose. Typical case scenarios that take advantage of LPWAN technology will be reviewed in different vertical markets of the IoT: Smart Agriculture, Smart Industry, Smart Cities (including Utilities & building monitoring).
