The workshop will address critical narrow band open PMR standards and include the current stage of development and availability being offered right now, and their evolution as a part of mission critical technologies running in parallel with LTE broadband systems, and the GSM-R evolution to an open global standard mission critical LTE. So what next? Is there a future for narrowband digital PMR technologies or will we be replacing them with LTE?
Topics for the workshop presentations will include:
- Introducing the Australasian TETRA Forum & International TETRA and Critical Communication Association
Presenter: Anton Abrahams – Chairman Australasian TETRA and Critical Communication Forum
- Technology comparison and limitations of the available critical digital narrow band PMR standards, feature sets and coverage available right now, and how these narrowband open standard technologies might look in the next 10 years or more
Presenters: Jim Simpson – ARCIA T&E, Regional Manager, Australasia, GMG Solutions, Phil Dowd – ARCIA T&E, Management Consultant, GravelRoad
- Comparing data delivery of current narrowband mission-critical radio systems and parallel broadband LTE systems
Presenter: Peter Hudson – Head of Technology and Innovation Sepura/Teltronic
- Current stage of 3GPP development and path towards a global open standard for critical LTE broadband services and the rollout options considered in various countries and continents …
Presenter: Tero Pesonen – Chairman of the Critical Communications Broadband Group (TCCA UK)
- What is current Australian landscape & requirement for private LTE networks over and above critical narrowband systems and the ACMA rules and spectrum availability for broadband?
Presenter: Murray Wales – Manager Solutions, Operational Technology, Computer Sciences Corporation – CSC Australia
- Evolution paths from 2G PMR to Critical LTE from a control room perspective
Presenter: Daniel Oliphant – Product Manager, ZETRON
- Product overview of parallel and hybrid solutions that include narrowband critical radio system + LTE technology for mission-critical users
Presenters: Peter Hudson – Head of Technology and Innovation, SEPURA/Teltronic, Kaddour Rebiai – Commercial Director, A/P, AIRBUS, Mario Schouten – Regional Director, Rohill
Followed by Q&A panel discussion.
Chaired by: Kevin Graham – Australasian TETRA Forum, with support of the above presenters
Footnote: The 3GPP organisation is developing Native PTT over LTE as an integral feature of LTE in release 13 with anticipated market availability approximately 2018/19. TETRA is proposing a closer integration with this application in a similar timeframe. This is getting very intense interest by emergency services globally as LTE applicable bands are being assigned for LTE for emergency services, many in the released analog TV bands (700 MHz). The standards for Native PTT over LTE have not yet been agreed and the 3GPP standards body has committed to agree and publish these standards in early to mid 2016. Manufactures software for the EPC that supports the PTT capability and devices that meet this Native PTT specification and ruggedness are in the major digital core and radio terminal manufacturers pipeline but not likely to be commercially available for a number of years with early adoption looking towards 2020.
