Vale is the one of the largest mining companies in the world. One nickel mine and plant is located in the south of New Caledonia Island at Goro, approximately 70 kilometres over rough and mountainous terrain from the capital of Noumea.
Vale relies on having maximum availability and reliability from its two-way radio network to keep 3000 staff working safely while achieving their highest levels of productivity. Monitored from Melbourne, Vale works in partnership with Motorola — according to strict SLAs and biannual audits — to ensure the site’s communications support the operational efficiencies and safety measures the team needs, and at a predictable cost. This session will examine how Vale has set up its communications so it can focus on plans for the long term to keep everything moving smoothly from pit to port.
